The Static

The pepper night hues
seasoned with
turmeric lights
that we savoured together
are now recipes of
insipid vacuous gloom
plattered with pain
and despodency
the mothballed sleeps
yield no dreams anymore
and clock only drags
with a cumbrous weight
“time never felt as heavy
when you were here”

the only thing motile
left in me now
are my thoughts
peripatetic, wayfaring
vagrant and itinerant
rest I am all static
quiescent
and almost torpid
like the sky
with its immutable latency

yes, I know
I could have counted
my breaths too
the alter in my chest
from high to low then high
with every inhale and exhale
which follows
but let’s not be deceived
for I hope you know
it’s been fairly long
that I disowned them
and what I snort now
are only borrowed gasps
from the remains of
exanimated life
that you left me with.

    1. Thank you very much, dear friend (I wish I knew your name) for your piquant comment! lol!

No, seriously….I am so glad you could feel the various emotions enveloped in this piece. Yes, it’s a little dark, but it also has an element of love and longing in it, which you’ve rightly pointed out. Your kind words of appreciation mean a lot to me. Thanks again! 🤗

      Cheers!

  1. “time never felt as heavy when you were here”. This is a beautiful line. And using peripatetic, wayfaring vagrant and itinerant all in one line doesn’t make them unbearable because you do it so well. The end of the poem seemed like a wave of energy travelling from my eyes and entering deep into my heart with a piercing and churning. I don’t know if that kind of effect makes any sense to a poet because maybe they don’t intend that. But your words sure have power to move the consciousness in reader.

    1. Aahh…. this should make my day, and the weekend too! Thanks, Anand for your kind words. Well, just the fact that the poem made some sense to your senses makes a lot of sense to this ‘poet’.😝

Very humbled, and delighted to know that my words could touch you. Thanks again,
      Anand. 🤗

      1. Sensory delight and overloaded emotions sorry light entered a bit late but it ate full bowl of owl and darkness. The dark picture–especially the “shadow” is haunting to say the least 😀 😀 😀

          1. Ahh, now that wasn’t making fun, that was saying that image was stunning and hauntingly beautiful in a dark way. That’s not merely your reciprocation of my appreciation for your verse, another multiverse into flowering now. Though I would still say that sweet potatoes poetess tessellated ted edifying flying soccers sorceresses assess essential poetic prowess rows and rows of owls, flowers, vases sesquipedalian sasquatch 😀 😀 😀
