Blame the Night

Blame the
mischievious night
clinging on to me
if I wake up with
traces of stars
lingering on my skin

the dust from
corroding moon
may turn
my body bronze
blame it on
rusty desires
if you find
my kisses old

my eyes
may still doze off
with the weight of
dampened dreams
blame it on
frigid dew
that drenched
my torrid sleep.

  1. Great work, Chhaya. Relatable. Night time is the time when all your dreams come alive, sometimes even when you’re awake. Reminds me of Langston Hughes’ Dream Deferred. The weight of dreams weighs down on us and corrodes us.

Had written a piece on it describing the lessons we can learn from the poem. If that sounds interesting do you, do check out the poem article here and tell me what you think 😀

    1. Thank you very much, dear friend! I am thrilled to have your kind comment on this and to know that you could relate to the poem. Moreover, the fact that this poem reminded you of Langston Hughes’ Dream Deferred, kind of fascinates me. It’s an outstanding work of poetry with so much to fall in love with. Your description of the poem is very engaging indeed. The way you have tried to put yourself into the shoes of the poet and tried to decipher the real thoughts behind the verses is truly incredible. I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks so much indeed for sharing it with me. 🤗

      Cheers!
