Stretching Too Far

I will come out
of this gloom
not for you
but for myself
and I hope that
you come out too
of this despair
not for me
but for yourself

for this darkness
has clung on to our feet
for too long now
restricting us
from stepping out
of this space
full of insecurities
and apprehensions
some yours
and some mine
the residues from the past
the baggage of which
we have been carrying
with us all the time
to burden our present
with the weight of
fears about the future

and while we may say
we tried our best
to pull each other out
of this growing woe
yet we never ceased
to remind ourselves
that we were more vulnerable
than any other soul

well, we don’t realise that
yearning for admiration
and adulation
is even capable of
making us deeply mean
it’s strange though
that we believe that
love can only yield
the most venerable traits
that do exist

so we went on
stretching ourselves
till we could endure
just trying hard
to hold on to each other
for giving up would have meant
that we were callous and unkind
the characteristics which we
the so called “sensitive” beings
don’t want to get labelled by

but how did we forget
there’s a limit to stretching
and someday we would break
and fall far apart
only to realise that
the hold which seemed so tight
had an intent extremely fragile
which crumbled under the grip
and collapsed in a little while

and while the breakage
would certainly be divisive
but may be we would find
some relief in this unbind.

    1. Hey Kunal, thanks so much for the kind comment ! I have indeed been very irregular with my posts lately. Work has been consuming a lot of my time. Things are all well otherwise. Thanks so much for asking, Kunal. Hope you’re well. 😊

Why, thank you. You are too kind to say that. 😊

        Cheers.
P.S. Does all your comments have a beginning, a body and a signature? Just curious, that’s all! 😁

        1. Lol ! Yeah…kind of. I am very bad at taking compliments or words of appreciation. I really like connecting with my readers but I totally fail in bringing variations in my response to their comments. You got me.

          1. I believe a thank you could do the job. But I understand that you want to be polite and also connect with the people. And I think you really like writing letters. Just saying. 😜
But I think this is cool. Keep doing what you feel would be the best way to connect with people. You surely did leave an impact on me. So cheers. ☺️

                  1. I completely agree.
That is why I try to leave scope for a reply in the form of a question or likewise, ie whenever possible. Helps connecting with the author, if they reply back, else try again in another post.
I believe all bloggers would love to have an interactive comment section. Would you agree?

                    1. “Nice post” doesn’t leave much for the author to work upon, does it? Adding a little more to it does spark up a conversation. Perhaps a question or something like that. Though it’s my opinion.

And doesn’t it make each person unique and interesting?
Yes, I do. I am in the middle of that process right now. 😁

                    2. Yes, of course dear Enigma 😝. A writer’s mind is always curious. What really excites me is to know and understand how different readers can interpret the same poem in different ways. I am always eager to know what really made them hit the like button or leave a comment. Yes, so a little more than “nice post” always brings about a greater thrill….to me at least. 😁

And yes, we are all unique and interesting in our own ways….and that’s a wonderful thing. 😊

                    3. I know right! I have the same exact thoughts. I too want to know what they liked in the post, and more importantly what they hated, which helps me in improving myself. 😁

Sometimes, it pains me to see people hitting the like button just because it’s in their feed and that they have followed the blog, without actually reading it.

Yes, it indeed is a wonderful thing. 😊

Since you didn’t put across any question in your last comment, I am assuming that you are either sleepy or busy writing something….and I don’t wish to disturb you in either of the situations.

It was lovely connecting with you. Hope to have more interactions soon.

Good night (not sure if it’s night in ur part of the world, but still)
