Of Love and Hope

Our unruffled unscathed present
enveloped by the shadows of dark past
was not meant to be like a raven room
full of dead memories and creepy dreams

we the detached deserted souls
like broken branches of trees
lying on the ground in blistering heat
were not meant to sear ourselves
with the caustic pain that we have imbibed

the slivered and shredded hearts
ravaged by the thrashes of doomed love
were not meant to be mended
with the guilt of undevised sins that we hold

the smiles that we barely give away
on our incidental awkward meetings
were not meant to be restricted
by the extent of closeness which we share

the loving tender touch of warm fingers
which we have been abstaining from
were not meant to remind us of
all the ugly scars that our bodies carry

the windows and doors of desires
which we have kept shut over the years
were not meant to keep at bay
the beams of luminous hope
which the future would soon radiate.

  1. This is indeed quite thought provoking. And I had to read 2-3 times to really get the essence of the poem. Wonderfully written ❤

It seemed to me that the protagonist of the poem hopes to have the love back but another part of her doesn't want it back. She doesn't regret anything but maybe she is guilty of fantasising about her love that she once had or maybe there is a possibility that she may get that back what she wishes for! I may have gotten it completely wrong but I am enjoying this process of really understanding and discussing your poems because they all are very interesting and has a story to tell ❤ ❤ ❤

  3. We have awful pasts… We’ve foud true love in each other…. We plan to play by the “rule” now…. only that the past is challenging that….

That’s my humble deduction. I might be wrong though. Great job anyway. And those double adjectives work just fine…….

    1. You are very close to the exact interpretation my friend ! That’s the beauty about poetry….we all see them through our own distinct lenses. Thanks so much for taking time to read it and for your lovely comment. I am so glad that you liked it 🙂

      Cheers !!
