Loving You in Your Absence

I can love you the most
when I am not with you
in the absence
of your bodily presence
the presence
which I once thought
was quintessential
so as to feel you

Sans the walls
of skin, flesh and bones
sans the covering of
hair and sweat on our bodies
sans the sensation of
softness and coarseness
of our touch
loving you in your absence
is when I love you the deepest
shedding all the possible layers
which could ever exist between us
feeling you
just as you are
without any inhibitions
pretensions or fear
as our souls become our hands
and our souls become our lips
and our souls make love
to the bodies that our souls are

Oh, how superficial is the love
that our frames make to each other
